How it works

How to use it: enter two TV diagonals and one seat distance. The overlay and metrics compare how much wall space, visible area and horizontal viewing angle each setup creates.

Formula. Width and height come from 16:9 diagonal geometry. Area increase = (B area / A area - 1) x 100. Viewing angle uses 2 x atan(width / (2 x distance)).

Example. Moving from 55 to 75 inches increases visible area by about 86%, not merely the 36% increase suggested by diagonal alone.

Why does area grow faster than diagonal?

For the same aspect ratio, both width and height scale with diagonal, so area scales with diagonal squared.
