Practical tools for measured work
TV Mount Height & VESA Position Calculator
Calculate screen centre, top, bottom and VESA reference height from your actual seated sight line.
Positive means the VESA centre is higher
How it works
How to use it: measure seated eye height and eye-to-screen distance. Choose a small upward sight angle if the screen centre must sit above eye level, then enter the manufacturer's VESA-centre offset.
Formula. Screen centre height = eye height + tan(sight angle) x viewing distance. Screen top and bottom add or subtract half the physical panel height.
Example. With a 65-inch TV, 40-inch eye height and zero-degree sight line, the centre is 40 inches high; the visible panel runs roughly 24.1 to 55.9 inches.
Current-input example
The result above uses these exact values. This snapshot is included when the page is printed so the output can be checked against the original measurements.
- TV diagonal
- 65 in
- Seated eye height
- 40 in
- Eye-to-screen distance
- 96 in
- Sight angle above horizontal
- 0 deg
- VESA centre offset from screen centre
- 0 in
Primary result: Screen centre height: 40.0 in.
Before using the result
- Measure from the datum or reference edge described by this tool, and do not mix inside, outside and centerline dimensions.
- Keep inputs in the displayed units and preserve more precision than the final cutting or purchasing tolerance requires.
- When the result is close to a limit, verify it with a test piece, field measurement, manufacturer drawing or qualified project professional.
Limitations
This calculates sight-line and screen geometry, not safe mounting. Use the TV and bracket drawings for chassis dimensions, VESA location and fasteners; verify wall structure, services, bracket capacity and local requirements before drilling.
Frequently asked questions
What does VESA offset mean?
Some TVs place the mounting-hole pattern above or below the visible screen centre. Enter that signed difference to turn screen-centre height into a bracket reference.
