Practical tools for measured work
Anamorphic 2.35:1 Screen Calculator
Plan constant-image-height scope geometry, same-height 16:9 size, side masks and anamorphic stretch.
The outer rectangle is the scope screen; the inner rectangle is a centred 16:9 image at constant height. Side masking values are geometric clear widths.
How it works
How to use it: enter clear scope-screen width, exact aspect ratio and eye-to-screen distance.
Formula. Height = width / scope ratio. A same-height 16:9 image has width = height x 16/9.
Example. A 120-inch-wide 2.39:1 screen is about 50.2 inches high and 130.1 inches diagonal.
Current-input example
The result above uses these exact values. This snapshot is included when the page is printed so the output can be checked against the original measurements.
- Scope screen width
- 120 in
- Scope aspect ratio
- 2.39:1
- Viewing distance
- 132 in
Primary result: Scope diagonal: 130.1 in.
Before using the result
- Measure from the datum or reference edge described by this tool, and do not mix inside, outside and centerline dimensions.
- Keep inputs in the displayed units and preserve more precision than the final cutting or purchasing tolerance requires.
- When the result is close to a limit, verify it with a test piece, field measurement, manufacturer drawing or qualified project professional.
Limitations
This models image geometry only. Projector memory, zoom range, lens shift, throw, overscan, subtitles, screen border and anamorphic lens compatibility must be checked separately. Film aspect ratios vary.
Frequently asked questions
Are 2.35 and 2.39 interchangeable?
They are close but not identical. Use the actual screen ratio to calculate masking and image fit accurately.
