Angles use a clock-face convention: 0° at 12 o'clock, increasing clockwise. Near and far values describe the same physical plane from opposite viewing directions.

How it works

This is clocking, not another travel calculator. Rise and signed lateral displacement define the offset plane. Its rotation from 12 o'clock is atan2(lateral, rise), then the entered datum is added and normalized to 0–360°.

The wrap mark converts that clock angle into tape distance around the actual OD: circumference × angle ÷ 360. Because a fabricator looking back from the far end sees clockwise direction mirrored, the far-end reading is 360° − the near-end reading.

Limitations

This establishes orientation marks only. It does not calculate elbow travel, weld shrinkage or fitting takeoff. The far-end conversion assumes both ends share the same physical top datum and the stated viewing directions; if your drawing uses plant north, pipe direction, or a different clock convention, reconcile that convention first.

Can the lateral value be negative?

Yes. Positive means right and negative means left when looking from the near end along the direction of flow.
