Practical tools for measured work
Corrugated Box Weight & Material Calculator
Estimate RSC blank area, board grammage, box weight and material cost from editable paper and flute inputs.
Use your board specification
How it works
How to use it: enter finished RSC dimensions, converting allowances, the two liner GSM values, medium GSM, measured or specified flute take-up, glue contribution and quantity.
Formula. Board GSM = outer liner + inner liner + medium x take-up factor + glue. Weight = estimated blank area x board GSM. The RSC blank uses two length and two width panels, one width of top/bottom flaps, and the entered tab/allowances.
Example. FEFCO illustrates 175 + (140 x 1.43) + 175 + 10, approximately 560 gsm, for a C-flute construction.

Primary result: Each box: 681 g.
Before using the result
- Measure from the datum or reference edge described by this tool, and do not mix inside, outside and centerline dimensions.
- Keep inputs in the displayed units and preserve more precision than the final cutting or purchasing tolerance requires.
- When the result is close to a limit, verify it with a test piece, field measurement, manufacturer drawing or qualified project professional.
Limitations
This estimates material weight, not compression strength or a production quotation. Trim, slots, manufacturer allowances, moisture, coatings, ink and measured take-up change actual mass. Replace every nominal input with supplier data before costing production.
Frequently asked questions
Why is take-up factor editable?
Flute profiles consume different lengths of medium, and actual machinery/profile values vary. FEFCO publishes indicative ranges rather than one universal number.
