How it works
How to use it: enter your page size, the label size, the gaps between labels, and the margins from the page edge to the first label. The tool fits as many whole labels as possible and draws the grid live; export it as an SVG or a print-ready PDF.
Formula. Along each axis, the usable space (page size minus both margins) is divided by one label pitch (label size plus gap), with one extra gap added back to the usable space - because the last label in a row doesn't need a trailing gap after it:

Worked example. With the defaults above (A4 page 210×297 mm, 63.5×38.1 mm labels, 2.5 mm horizontal gap, 0 mm vertical gap, 7 mm side margin, 13 mm top margin): columns = floor((210 − 14 + 2.5) ÷ (63.5 + 2.5)) = floor(198.5 ÷ 66) = floor(3.0076) = 3; rows = floor((297 − 26 + 0) ÷ (38.1 + 0)) = floor(271 ÷ 38.1) = floor(7.1129) = 7. That's 3 × 7 = 21 labels on the sheet.

Before using the result
- Measure from the datum or reference edge described by this tool, and do not mix inside, outside and centerline dimensions.
- Keep inputs in the displayed units and preserve more precision than the final cutting or purchasing tolerance requires.
- When the result is close to a limit, verify it with a test piece, field measurement, manufacturer drawing or qualified project professional.
Limitations
This generates a blank outline grid only - a starting layout, not a pre-set commercial label template. It does not include bleed or safe-area margins around each label, so any text or artwork you place should be kept a few millimetres inside each outline.
It doesn't match against specific label-brand catalog sizes (Avery or similar) - you enter the page, label and margin dimensions yourself, and it is your responsibility to check them against your actual label stock's die-cut spec sheet.
Printer feed tolerance and non-printable page margins vary by printer and driver. Always print a test sheet on plain paper at 100% scale (no "fit to page" scaling) and hold it against your label stock before printing to adhesive labels.
Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't the grid fill the whole page?
Only whole labels are placed - the calculator rounds down to the number of full label columns and rows that fit within your margins, so there's often a bit of unused space on the trailing edge of each row or column. Adjust the margins or gaps if you want that space distributed differently.
Does this match a specific Avery or brand label size?
Not automatically - there's no built-in catalog of commercial label sizes. You enter your own page, label and margin dimensions, so you can replicate a known product by typing in its published spec sheet numbers, but the tool won't look them up for you.
Why did my label count change when I only adjusted the margin?
Because columns and rows are found with a floor (round-down) division, small margin changes near a boundary can flip whether an extra label fits. If a change of a millimetre or two adds or removes a whole row or column, that's expected - try nudging the margin further to confirm the fit.
